After bathing or spraying themselves with water, elephants toss dry soil or sand over their backs. This layer acts like sunscreen, shielding their sensitive skin from the harsh sun. Here the dust already looks hot, reflecting perhaps the threat of the human world and the climate crisis we are causing.
